To get the most from your bathroom, follow these common-sense and practical tips:

As bathrooms are usually damp, they are not good for storing towels and textiles. Keep as much of these as possible away from the bathroom, and store in a dry place. 

Choose bathroom cabinets that have integrated lighting and a mirror to save valuable space

Toothbrushes should be kept in a wall-mounted holder or toothmug with a drain on the bottom, as they drip after use. Putting them in a mug causes the dirty water to run down and collect at the bottom of the mug.

Use different coloured toothbrushes to help identify whose toothbrush is whose. If you have an electric toothbrush, use the little coloured rings to identify yours.

Ensure your soapdish has a rack or ridges to let the soap drain after use.

Use a trolley for storing extra bath products. It’s practical and you can pull it to the bath tub when you need it.

Bath products such as shampoos and conditioners are not decorative ornaments. Keep them out of sight in a cupboard after use.

Medicines and cleaners should be locked up or put into a high place out of the reach of children.  Remember that bathrooms are warm so some medicines should not be kept there at all.

Plastic net bags are good for storing kid’s bath toys.

Heated towel rails help keep your towels warm and dry, as well as organising them. They are also a practical alternative to a radiator in winter.

Try to keep washing machines out of the bathroom, but if that’s not possible, ensure that you hide the washing powder and conditioner out of sight.

Bear in mind that good ventilation is essential in a bathroom.
